Had I Not

I did not want to be at work today. Just something in me wasn't feeling it. I work with great people and encounter some very interesting folk each day, but today I lost my song.... for just a moment.

Had I not went, I would have not heard the voice of the lady, in a hurry, crying out. After keeping my smile and speaking a little softer, she begins to open up explaining how her husband is in the hospital and she even asked if she could have an extra bag to bring home his dirty clothes. I would have gave her anything to ease her pain.

Had I not went, I wouldn't have seen the joy in a 52 year long marriage. They laughed and picked at each other and I watched as they divided and conquered their shopping trip. They came back to my register only to realize he forgot the oyster crackers! She was a bit frustrated and I watched how they handled this. She says, "honey you just go ahead and pay and I will walk over and get them." Now I understand how they managed 52 years. Some things just aren't worth the argument.

Had I not went, I wouldn't have found out that cranberry pomegranate juice makes Aloe Vera juice taste wonderful! The guy is in his late 60s and looks barely 40.

Had I not went, I wouldn't have heard the great news from a 4yr old, that Cousin Baby Ella was born and they are going to see her. This was the most important news to this little girl and I was thrilled and excited with her.

Had I not went, I wouldn't have met Addison, who's daddies name is Kevin, she proudly told me. Mom, Addie, and siblings were shopping while dad worked. Mom was tired and she was wanting so much for dad to be home more, but GE just couldn't allow it. I did understand.

Had I not went, I wouldn't have met the lady who is deaf. I first thought she was ignoring me. Her husband let me know she's been deaf for 15 yrs now and even the cochlear implant wouldn't help. I wanted to speak her language so badly, just to tell her she has the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen!

Had I not went, I wouldn't have laughed at the choices of waffle irons with the lady, now living alone, who snagged me on my return from lunch. We both were clueless, but she decided on the cheapest iron, all because she wanted to make waffles TODAY. I say set a goal and achieve it.

Had I not went, I wouldn't have heard all the children planning their weekend and what fun they will have playing in the snow! Ahhh! I got so pumped that I am going sled riding just to feel youthful again!!

Had I not went, I really don't think I would have found my song today. Sometimes it makes perfect sense to be silent and listen to the melodies around us, to create our own.
